The high energy of the festive season generates such a buzz within my body and my mind. A lot of the energy translates as warmth and happiness, making me feel amazingly positive. But some of it (particularly the organisational pressure of the season), feels like a huge burden. There are often high expectations, crazy schedules, and deadlines wafting around what are essentially meant to be wonderful, relaxed, family celebrations.
I often try and talk myself out of the stress that I can, but as a yoga teacher said in a class yesterday, you can’t always change it, so you have to know how to balance it.
Finding the peace inside of yourself. Generating an opposing force to that consuming frenetic energy, by doing whatever it is that brings you calm, so that you can handle the heightened energy, but also enjoy the warmth and happiness of the season.

It’s quite uncanny how similar our posts today are. Similar kind of photo – similar but not quite the same topic! lol I do feel stressed at this time of the year. Too much extra activity, too much to organise, busy shopping centres, spending too much money, eating too much food, and so on. I’m stepping off the whole treadmill soon, unplugging and going to the beach. Hopefully, I’ll then be feeling a whole lot better for Christmas 🙂
Must be part of some communal vibe! We are all feeling the same things. I love the totally unplugged concept. I will doing that myself closer to Christmas.
I know that the only way to get through December unscathed is to be organised enough to take a moment and breathe occasionally, but that takes a bit more motivation than I’ve got at the moment!
I am in ‘list’ overdrive trying to be organised and calm as Christmas approaches. Remember to stop and breathe whenever you can.
Finding the peace within yourself. I like that. Yes.
It can be a real challenge to actually stop and really feel what’s going on inside of you sometimes, but it’s the only way to take stock and become aware of where you’re at.
Finding the balance, what a great way to look at it. Meditation is always my touchstone, but it’s funny how easy it is to let it slip exactly when I really need it x
Yes I think I often try and completely avoid stress, or get more stressed about feeling stressed…you just have to balance what you can’t change.
The beach definitely brings me calm. I am aiming to go every week this summer and especially right now I need it to balance myself. Xxx
I’ve only been to the beach once this season, but it’s my plan to go really regularly too. It’s such a calming, earthing place for me.
Great post – I like the pic too! (that was what the blogger lunch talk said too – you can’t change the cirucumstance, but you can change how you react to them)
Thanks Lydia. I remember hearing the Dalai Lama speak once about choosing how to react to stressful situations. Essentially only be concerned about the problems you can change. Same theory I guess.
What a stunning photograph. That Perth sky and water is incredible, isn’t it? Thanks for linking with #TeamIBOT:-)
Best beaches in the world I think!!
Yep – totally with you on this.
I think the beach relaxes anybody. Imagine having Christmas at the beach
I find a need to do extra meditation, yoga or qi gong at this time of year to help balance out the nuttiness of it all. And if all else fails, I tend to just run and hide.
